Depopulation

Depopulation is an event or action which serves to substantially decrease the population of an area such as by exile, disaster, economic decline, disease, destruction, war, or government action.

Depopulation Examples:

  • The exterminator depopulated the hornets nest by spraying it with poison.
  • During the 1500’s the Spanish depopulated much of what is now  Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, Honduras and El Salvador by killing many native people while working to colonize “the new world” which they referred to as “New Spain“
